The PTO will be starting a new initiative this year called the “Welcome Committee”!
This will be a parent-to-parent support program where we match up new incoming families with a parent already in the district!
Coming into a new district as a transfer or new KG student can be intimidating and hard to navigate. These parents will likely have many questions so our Welcome Committee will be there to give them someone to turn to for answers and advice!
The Welcome Committee will be made up of volunteer parents of current students who will be a resource to new families as they get settled during their first year in the district. This program will also serve to engage the new parents at the start of the school year and encourage them to become involved and stay connected!
New parents will be connected with a parent volunteer that has a child in the same grade level. The KG parents and 6th grade parents will be paired with a parent volunteer in the grade level above. They will also have access to the Welcome Committee members in the other grade levels for any concerns for current or future planning.
But we need volunteers! Parents of current students, we need your invaluable experience to make this really work and to welcome our new families with the biggest arms!
The volunteers will need to be PTO members who will contact all new parents at the beginning of the school year and offer their support, guidance, and tips on the current processes of District 53. They will remain in contact throughout the school year to continue to be a resource and mentor.
This will ultimately build a stronger Butler community…because it takes a village!
