Rock and Mineral Identification

Ages 8 yrs. to Adult
Geologist Sara Kurth presents an introduction to rocks and minerals. Learn to identify minerals through basic hands-on identification including observation skills and hardness tests. Great for rockhounds and Boy & Girl Scout badges. Adult supervision is required.

Dino Discoveries
March 28 2pm.50 minutes
Ages 4 yrs. & up
Children become dinosaur detectives with “Paleontologist Illinois Bones” to learn about the world of dinosaurs. Fossils and props are used to create an awareness of dinosaur characteristics. See live animals and how they are related to dinosaurs

Smithsonian Museum Day
April 4 10 am to 5 pm
Come celebrate Smithsonian Museum Day, a one-day event in which Smithsonian Affiliate Museums across the nation provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. Participants can download or print one ticket per email address to provide free general admission for up to two people (may not be used for Mazon Creek trip).
